Larch decking
Larch is a naturally durable softwood that makes an attractive, good value deck without needing tropical hardwood or chemical preservatives. Our decking range is built around larch, with boards that start in warm honey and reddish tones and weather gently to silver grey. We offer European, Austrian, German and Canadian larch, and you can ask us about British larch. Siberian larch is available where possible, although supply of Siberian larch is now controlled.
Why choose larch
- A resinous heartwood that is naturally resistant to decay.
- A distinctive grain and a warm colour.
- Lighter and easier to work than dense hardwoods.
Repairing or extending an existing deck
If you are repairing or extending a deck built in Siberian larch, we can help you match the look with an alternative larch. Pre-aged weathered finishes help new boards blend with older ones, so the join is less obvious. Send us a photo or ask for samples from free timber samples.
Installation
Lay boards across joists at 400mm centres with a 5 to 8mm gap. Pre-drill and use stainless steel screws, as larch resin and tannins can mark ordinary fixings. Keep the frame ventilated, using decking substructure joists, and avoid soil contact.
Finishing
Oil from finishes and treatments keeps the colour, otherwise the boards will turn silver. Expect some resin and small knots, which are natural.
Ordering
Add 10% to your deck area for waste. See all decking boards, our larch cladding for matching walls, or the larch external cladding category.
