Secret fixing clips for timber cladding and decking

Secret fixing clips hold boards in place without any screw or nail heads showing on the face. The result is a cleaner, more modern look, and it avoids the staining and splitting that can come from face fixing. They are the usual choice for profiles with a groove or kerf cut into the edge.

• Tongue and groove cladding and secret fix profiles on walls and soffits.
• Grooved decking boards on a joist frame.
• Internal feature walls where a flawless surface matters.

Matching clips to boards

Clips are made for particular board thicknesses and groove types, so check the board profile first. Our external cladding range lists the profile for each board, and the clips on this page are chosen to suit those profiles. Stainless steel clips are the best choice outdoors, as ordinary steel can rust and stain the timber, especially on oak, larch and cedar.

How many to order

You need one clip per board at every batten or joist crossing. Work out the number of boards, multiply by the number of supports, and add a small margin for losses. Order the board area with 10% extra for waste, and order clips to match that higher board count.

Fitting tips

• Keep battens or joists at consistent centres, typically 400 to 600mm for cladding.
• Fix the first and last boards by another method, as these cannot be clipped.
• Use the screws or pins recommended for the clip in the correct length.
