Thermowood internal cladding

Thermally modified timber is heated to high temperatures in a controlled process, which changes its colour and makes it more stable. Used inside, it gives a rich brown tone that suits saunas, bathrooms, feature walls and ceilings. Read more in our thermally modified timber guide. Check each product page for species, profile and size.

Where it is used

  • Feature walls and ceilings in living spaces.
  • Bathrooms and utility rooms, where stability matters.
  • Saunas and spa areas, where suitable for the specification.
  • Commercial interiors such as restaurants and offices.

How much to order

Measure the wall area in square metres, then divide by the cover width of one board and multiply by length to get the number of boards. Add 10% for waste, more for diagonal or herringbone layouts. Check the cover width on the product page, as it is smaller than the overall board width.

Fixing

Fix to battens at 400 to 600 mm centres, using secret nailing or stainless clips for a clean look. Our secret fixing clips help avoid visible fixings. Let boards acclimatise in the room for a few days before fitting.

Finishing

Thermally modified timber can be left natural, oiled or lacquered. Colour will change slowly with light, so choose a UV-stable finish if you want to hold the tone. See finishes and treatments.

For exterior use, see our Thermowood external cladding. Ordering a free sample is the best way to check colour. Shop prices include VAT and UK delivery.
