SertiWOOD Rustic Coloured Internal Cladding Guide
If you want colour on a wall without losing the character of timber, a coloured tongue and groove board is a good place to start. Our SertiWOOD Rustic internal cladding is designed for feature walls and ceilings, from rustic and retro looks to “shabby chic”.
The colours
The range comes in six tones: Cappuccino, Lemon, Denim, Cherry, Mint and Smoke. The product page describes them as bright and bold colours, and the boards have a planed sawn surface that lets the natural wood grain show.
You can use one colour throughout or mix several for a striped or patchwork effect. Sample pieces are listed on the site for Cappuccino, Lemon, Denim and Cherry. If you would like to see another colour before you order, ring us on 0161 504 0011 and we will advise.
Browse our timber samples and sample products to see what is available. Screens vary a lot, and colour on timber always looks different in a real room.
Profile and size
- Tongue and groove V-jointed profile, with tongue and groove on all four edges
- Planed sawn surface, so the wood grain still shows through the colour
- Size: 12 x 120mm
- Length: 2.357m
- Pack: 1 bundle of 8 pieces covers about 2.10m2, and a larger 14-bundle (112 pieces) option is listed
The boards can be installed horizontally or vertically. The product page says they give clean joints for longer runs, which removes the need for very long lengths of timber.
Where it works
The product page describes the range as popular in residential and hospitality settings, including bars and restaurants. Typical places include:
- Children’s bedrooms and playrooms
- Hallways, cloakrooms and utility rooms
- Bar and cafe feature walls
- Ceilings, where a single colour can lift a room
- Panelled alcoves
Because it is a lightweight 12mm board, it suits internal walls and ceilings. It is not an external product. For outdoor painted boards, see our SertiWOOD painted external cladding.
Fitting and fixings
The product page describes the boards as quick and easy to install. We list SertiWOOD cladding clips and nails sized for the 12x120mm internal rustic and white wax range, so you can secret-fix and keep the face clean. They are listed in internal timber cladding.
General good practice applies:
- Fix battens first, to a level plane.
- Let boards settle in the room before fixing.
- Leave small expansion gaps and cover them with trim.
- Cut ends and edges may need touching up. Ask us which finish is suitable before you buy one.
Standards and sourcing
The product page states that the boards are FSC certified and CE marked to EN14915, with A/B grade timber quality. If you need documentation for a specification, ask us and we will help you request it.
If you are specifying for a commercial project, do not assume a fire rating for any interior board. Check what your project requires with building control, and see our fire retardant cladding guide.
Design ideas
Colour works best when it is deliberate. A few approaches:
- One bold wall: cover a single feature wall and keep the rest of the room neutral.
- Two-tone: fit boards horizontally for the lower half of a wall and a lighter paint above, finished with a timber capping rail.
- Ceiling colour: a pale colour on the ceiling can make a room feel more finished without making the walls feel heavy.
- Mixing colours: alternate boards from two or three colours for a patchwork look, using samples to test combinations.
Consider furniture, flooring and lighting. Strong colours reflect onto nearby surfaces, and warm bulbs shift the tone of cooler colours such as Denim and Mint.
Rustic, white wax or painted: which?

Trends to watch
Bold colour and “colour drenching”, painting walls, ceilings and sometimes trims in one colour, have been widely discussed in UK interiors writing. Coloured boards give a version of the look with texture, since the planed surface and joints add shadow lines that flat paint does not.
We cannot say which of the six Rustic colours will be most popular in future. Our advice is to pick colours you will enjoy living with, and test samples in your own light.
